Friday!

Friday is always a great day for a blog post. The week is wrapping up. The beer I will drink at Happy Hour is the most important choice I have to make at the moment checks the time of writing, and it’s only 10:00 AM 😅. I think I built some good stuff this week. A budget tracking app, an authentication app that uses clerk for authentication, and I started working on a chat application. Lots of stuff, but I know that I need to get better at programming

In my endless quest for self-improvement, I signed up for the Salesforce Developer 1 Exam because why not? I need to stack up some certs and continue building things, and I love the Salesforce ecosystem.

I’ll be writing separate blog posts for each of my projects, but right now, I wanted to share some thoughts on my week and what I plan on moving forward, so let’s dive in!

I’ve always been a passionate, self-taught learner, and I feel like I never stop. I just love it. I taught myself how to code HTML and CSS in 2019 using Free Code Camp(Quincy Larson, you are the man) and slowly started picking things up as I went from there. Currently, I am a coding instructor. The best part about being a coding instructor is seeing my students learn how I learned. No matter where you are, in a bootcamp, teaching yourself to code at night, or you are in college for computer science(or a related field), I feel like everyone, to some degree, teaches themself to code. Programming is weird, especially once you get past HTML and CSS.

Not to say that either of those is easy to pick up. Quite the opposite. I have a lot of respect for anyone willing to get their hands dirty creating their front end from scratch instead of using a framework(although there is nothing wrong with using a framework, as you know, you are limited to the framework by said framework!) We have all been there. Having our hand held through programming. And then it happens. You get introduced to Python, JavaScript, or whatever else and realize how much more there is. High-level programming languages are incredibly powerful. They also can make you want to start drinking at around 10:30 points while writing. Writing programs that can automate tasks, make programs come to life, or anything else can be incredibly rewarding. But it’s not without its challenges.

Also, being self-taught, I’ve been passionate about “stacking certs,” a common thought process in the tech industry to continue self-teaching, building, and validating knowledge. I passed the Salesforce Associate exam in September of this year and am taking the plunge again. I signed up for the Salesforce Platform Developer 1 Exam. I’m passionate about learning the Salesforce Ecosystem, so another cert will help me grow and learn.

Eh, this post kind of hops around a lot, but at the end of the day, it’s Friday. Keep your eyes open for posts about my coding projects, and let me know what you think!

Cheers, friends. Have a great weekend, happy coding!
